The FCL.945 privilege can be used to revalidate SEP, TMG and Microlight ratings on UK NPPL and UK national licenses in accordance with ORS4 No. 1651 dated 24 Feb 2026
FCL.945 privileges are specific to the National Aviation Authority e.g. UK instructor cannot revalidate an SEP or TMG on an EASA licence and vice versa
General
The UK CAA will issue the FCL.945 privilege to an FI or CRI when the pilot licence has administrative action applied e.g. change of address, addition of type/class rating, etc. An FI or CRI may apply for the FCL.945 privilege directly to the UK CAA

UK FCL.945 Obligations for Instructors
Upon completion of the training flight for the revalidation of an SEP or TMG class rating in accordance with FCL.740.A (b)(1) and only in the event of fulfilment of all the other revalidation criteria required by FCL.740.A (b)(1) the instructor shall endorse the applicant's licence with the new expiry date of the rating or certificate, if specifically authorised for that purpose by the competent authority responsible for the applicant's licence
UK FCL.740.A Revalidation of Class and Type Ratings - Aeroplanes
(b) Revalidation of single-pilot single-engine class ratings
(1) Single-engine piston aeroplane class ratings and TMG ratings. For revalidation of single-pilot single-engine piston aeroplane class ratings or TMG class ratings the applicant shall:
(i) within the 3 months preceding the expiry date of the rating, pass a proficiency check in the relevant class in accordance with Appendix 9 to this Part with an examiner; or
(ii) within the validity period of the rating as set out in FCL.740(a), complete 12 hours of flight time in the relevant class, including:
- 6 hours during the 12 months preceding the expiry date of the rating,
- 6 hours as PIC,
-12 take-offs and 12 landings, and
- refresher training of at least 1 hour of total flight time with a flight instructor (FI) or a class rating instructor (CRI). Applicants shall be exempted from this refresher training if they have passed a class or type rating proficiency check, skill test or assessment of competence in any other class or type of aeroplane
On-Track Aviation notes:
1. Flight time in TMGs may only be counted if the pilot holds the applicable class rating
2. Flight time in a 3-axis Microlight or Non-Part 21 aeroplane can be counted
3. 3-axis Microlight can be used for the refresher training
4. Part 21 and Non-Part 21 aeroplanes can be used for the training flight

UK FCL.740 Validity and Renewal of Class and Type Ratings
(a) The period of validity of class and type ratings shall be 1 year, except for single-pilot single-engine class ratings, for which the period of validity shall be 2 years, unless otherwise determined by the operational suitability data, established in accordance with Part-21
UK FCL.010 Definitions
Revalidation
Revalidation (of e.g. a rating or certificate) means the administrative action taken within the period of validity of a rating or certificate which allows the holder to continue to exercise the privileges of a rating or certificate for a further specified period consequent upon the fulfilment of specified requirements
FCL.035 Crediting of flight time and theoretical knowledge (extract)
(4) Excluding aeroplanes specified in paragraph (1)(e) of Annex 1 to Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 and aircraft the subject of a decision of the CAA in accordance with Article 2(8) of that Regulation, hours flown in aircraft specified in Annex 1 to Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 may be credited towards fulfilling the flight time and other requirements of this Annex appropriate to the relevant category and class of aircraft
(5) Hours flown on aeroplanes specified in paragraph (1)(e) of Annex 1 to Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 or aircraft the subject of a decision of the CAA in accordance with Article 2(8) of that Regulation may be credited when conducted on aeroplanes equipped with a three-axis control system towards meeting:
i. the flight time and other requirements of FCL.140(A)(a) or FCL.740.A; or
ii. the flight time requirements of FCL.210.A(a).
Note: allows Annex 1 / Non-part 21 aeroplanes and microlights to be used for training

Which Instructors does FCL.945 apply to?
This only applies to an FI and CRI who have the privilege to instruct for SEP and/or TMG and/or Microlight ratings
What can the instructor do?
Revalidate an SEP and/or TMG and/or Mocrolight rating after having conducted the refresher training in accordance with:
UK FCL.740.A(b)(1)(ii) [for Part FCL licence]
and/or
ANO 2016 (as amended), Schedule 8, Part 3 (Maintenance of licence privileges), Chapter 1 (Requirement for revalidation and renewal) and ORS 4 No. 1651 [for UK NPPL / UK National licence]
