On-Track Aviation Limited was formed in 1997 by Alan Newton and Mark Young and operated within an already established flying school in Oxfordshire. The training courses were aimed at the PPL initially but a decision was taken in 2001 to specialise in training for professional pilot qualifications only. Instructor Training including Instructor Refresher Seminars were the first specialist area of professional training the company pursued gaining Approval in July 2001.
On-Track Aviation was the first Approved Training Organisation (ATO) specialising in Part Time Instructor Courses. In addition On-Track Aviation is unique in the UK as it is the only ATO offering Seaplane Instructor Courses on single engine aeroplanes as well as training and testing for the SEP (Sea) Class Rating and the Seamanship Examination.
On-Track has developed its own comprehensive instructor guide entitled Instructor Manual (Part FCL edition). As the name suggests it covers a variety of Part FCL courses from the LAPL(A) to multi-engine and more. This is the third training book published by On-Track following on from previous training manuals. It has been comprehensively re-written to reflect the Part FCL courses and the latest industry techniques and ideas.
When the UK left the European Union on 31 December 2020 On-Track Aviation became a dual approved ATO holding approvals for both the UK CAA and EASA.
On-Track's expertise as an instructor training organisation has been recognised by the CAA as members of the staff have been involved in Flight Instructor Course (FIC) Instructor training and testing. In addition, all On-Track Aviation instructional staff hold both UK CAA and Danish CAA [Trafikstyrelsen] instructor (FCL.900(c)) and examiner (FCL.1000(c)) certificates of which several hold Senior Examiner certificates. In 2024 the Danish CAA [Trafikstyrelsen] approved On-Track Aviation to provide Examiner Seminars for revalidation and renewal of examiner privileges and standardisation courses for the initial issue of examiner privileges.
As a corporate member of AOPA (UK) On-Track Aviation is able to train and test for the AOPA (UK) Ground Instructor Course which is aimed at anyone who wishes to teach the PPL or LAPL theoretical knowledge subjects. As many of our staff have extensive experience of teaching aerobatics, and have been involved in military and civil display flying, we can also offer training and testing for the AOPA (UK) Aerobatic Certificates, Aerobatic Rating as well as the Removal of the Aerobatic Instruction Restriction from your instructor certificate. We can also offer ground tuition for the AOPA (UK) Navigation Certificate Course. This course is designed to encourage pilots who hold either a PPL, LAPL or UK NPPL to obtain formal training in radio navigation procedures for use under Visual Flight Rules in accordance with the privileges of their licences.
Besides instructor training On-Track Aviation can offer Flight Instructor Examiner (FIE), Instrument Rating Examiner (IRE), Class Rating Examiner (CRE) and Flight Examiner (FE) training and testing on both single and multi-engine aeroplanes including single engine seaplanes. In 2013 Examiner Refresher Seminars were added and in 2016 Senior Examiner Refresher Seminars - Single Pilot Aeroplanes were included.
On-Track also offers the Synthetic Training Instructor (STI) training and testing using an FNPT II. Renewal and revalidations are also available for the STI certificate.
To accompany our examiner training courses we have devloped an examiner guide entitled Examiner Manual (Part FCL edition). As the name suggests it covers a variety of examiner courses from Ground Examiner (GR) to Senior Examiner. This training book published by On-Track follows on from the successful instructor manual series of books. It has been comprehensively written to reflect UK CAA examiner training guidance, techniques and ideas.
On-Track is also a training and testing centre for the UK FRTOL (Flight Radiotelephony Operators Licence) as well as a test centre for Lenguax which is approved to conduct English Language Proficiency testing by the UK CAA and EASA.
The company also offers Upset Prevention Recovery Training (UPRT) for both the Basic (CPL, ATPL, MPL) and Advanced (FCL.745.A) courses. In addition we offer UPRT instructor certifcate initial and refresher training for those wishing to teach on the Advanced UPRT (FCL.745.A).
On-Track Aviation also holds approval from the Danish CAA [Trafikstyrelsen] to conduct Examiner Training (FE, CRE, FIE, IRE, TRE (SPA)) and Examiner Refresher Seminars (FE, CRE, FIE, IRE, TRE (SPA), SFE(SPA)).
Other courses that can be run by On-Track Aviation include PPL(A), IMC Rating, Formation Flying and the Competency-Based IR(A) modular flying training. In addition, through one of our instructional staff we can also offer FAA flight checks including the BFR and IPC.
On-Track Aviation has developed into a well respected EASA and UK CAA Approved Training Organisation (ATO) and has a reputation amongst students for first class training with an above average first time pass rate. Indeed, all the students who have graduated from On-Track Aviation courses have quickly gained positions as either flight instructors or pilots within the airline industry. We have regular contact with many flying schools and clubs throughout the UK who enquire about our instructor graduates.
The company headquarters is located in the town of Wellesbourne in the county of Warwickshire.. Our offices are modern and air conditioned with exceptional facilities to encourage learning. The aircraft are all leased from a variety of organisations and individuals e.g. Cessna 152/172, PA28, T67 Firefly, Robin 2160, DA42, Seaplanes, etc. With such a wide choice of aeroplanes we are sure to have one that you are familiar with thus making your chosen course a lot simpler. In addition we lease an FNPT II simulator which is used on a number of the training courses we offer. Our main operating airfiled is Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome (EGBW) in Warwickshire.
The On-Track Aviation team, who are a mixture of full and part time personnel, include both Instructors and Examiners. Many of the staff come from a military background, others from within the airlines e.g. Cathay Pacific, British Airways, TUI, etc and some have worked for the UK CAA. Our staff are therefore well qualified to offer you first hand information on many aspects of a professional pilot career.
